To get a nice glossy shine on wax hardened leather, use a polish that matches the color of the leather you're wanting to shine. If you cannot find polish in the color you'd like, look for clear polish instead.
To apply polish:
- Clean the leather with saddle soap or glycerin soap to ensure that you have a clean working surface.
- Apply polish directly to the clean, dry leather using a polish brush, cloth, or your fingers using a circular motion to ensure an even coat.
- Using a buffing brush, knock off any loose polish that hasn't stuck completely to the leather. Make sure to buff in multiple directions so that you don't end up with streaks. You'll notice the leather getting a little bit of a shine during this state. This process takes a light touch, otherwise you're likely to remove all the polish you've applied.
- Apply a couple drops of water to the layer of polish and then use a microfiber or nylon cloth (pantyhose work great) to give the polish its final shine. Pulling the cloth tight between two hands or tightly wrapping it around one hand is ideal for shining. Again try to work multiple directions for the best result.
Hope that helps and happy shining!
